CHRISTINA MARTIN : A DOYEN'S DUES
Maitre Chef de Cuisine and Commandeur Associé de la Commanderie des Cordons Bleus de France
I was deeply saddened to hear the news that Christina Martin passed away today. My condolences to Bill, Michelle and Candy - the entire Martin family.
I will never forget sitting in Christina's office at the young age of 16 - all of a year before I needed to be there - for my interview to get into the "Christina Martin School of Food and Wine." For me getting into this course was not an option. My heart and mind were set. Intimidation was an emotion I felt strongly but I was in awe of her complete desire, passion, and obsession with the industry, training and upliftment. From that day on I grew to understand and to love her deep insistence for perfection.
After being at Hartford House for a few years, I bumped into Christina at the "Good Food and Wine Show" in Durban. She greeted me by name and said how proud she was of me. A definite "feel great" moment.
I thank you Christina for teaching me the French classical basics which are the cornerstone of my food today. Your energy, determination and dedication to training me will always be remembered.
You will be sorely missed and I wish the entire family all the very best of strength.
