Most Romantic and Serene Stay Ever
We stayed at Hartford House in the Midlands in May 2014, when our autumn heads into Winter. The oranges and reds of the surrounding trees are breath-taking this time of year, even though a little crisp in the mornings!
This is a widely acclaimed Stud farm, beautiful horses and very impressive facilities which you can experience on a tour offered for around R200. The farm is massive and has over 400 horses by my estimate, including a Stallion owned by Sir Alex F!
The Hotel itself is a combination of old stables from legendary horse winners (check the website - www.summerhill.co.za) and have been really well modelled and refurbished but have kept their history very well. The hostesses were so helpful, and went out of their way for a very special evening and arrangements that were required, nothing was too much effort.
Their 6 course meal prepared by the charming Chef was absolutely exquisite, and every person was introduced and the meal explained. On our final night we had opted to stay in rather than have a restaurant meal, and a friendly knock at the door enquired if we were alright and if we wanted some soup! A touch you don't often find in many hotels anywhere in the world. I will definitely go back, and the Midlands has so much to offer for any traveller, couple or family. South Africa'ss finest!
