Another Superb Meal at Hartford House
As ever we were greeted by welcoming members of staff, and seated on the covered terrace. Sadly for the second year running the weather was not good, pouring rain and fairly cool. Luckily the terrace is equipped with extremely good heaters and we were very comfortable within minutes.
The chief, CONSTANTIJN HAHNDIEK's menu was as interesting and inventive as always. Our starters, 2 x chicken terrine and vegetable combination were real winners. The terrine garnishes were exemplary - the winner being the very thinly sliced yellow plum slices, which tempered the slightly sweater chutnies.
Our mains, beef fillet with pearl barley, honey cooked carrot and braised cabbage. Chicken supreme, with mashed potatoes. and king klip with sweet potato, carrot, garlic cloves and a light sauce, all lived up to their promise. As a consumer of extremely blue steak it is always a delight to find a chef who understands exactly what is required - so many good chefs still consider they know better than me how I should eat their fillet - Constantijn is a real winner! Our deserts 1x Strawberry, 1x chocolate and 1x cheese were super and a fitting conclusion to our meal.
