Over three days, this unique international restaurant festival will bring together the city's most acclaimed restaurants, prestigious chefs and carefully selected premium exhibitors and promises to attract Durban's most dedicated and sophisticated foodies in an outdoor celebration of fine dining.
'Taste' is an unforgettable experience which can only be described as 'foodie heaven' and is widely considered 'the world's greatest restaurant festival.'
Starting with the 'Taste of London' in 2004, the 'Taste Festival' phenomenon has spread to the most fashionable cities worldwide and has set a new global benchmark for 'food and drink' with 16 Taste Festivals (including Cape Town and Johannesburg) hosted internationaly.
Pick n Pay 'Taste of Durban' in association with Orbit Sugarfree Chewing Gum will be showcasing 8 of Durban's top restaurants and chefs, namely Café 1999, Hartford House, Havana Grill & Little Havana, 9th Avenue Bistro, Simply Asia Ballito, Jewel of India, Max's Lifestyle Umlazi and Versaille at The Blue Waters Hotel.
Taste brings these chefs together to serve the fabulous, trend-setting signature dishes that have made them so popular with foodies and critics alike. This impressive list of participating restaurants and their exceptional chefs guarantees that there is something sensational for every palate.
Added to the extraordinary line up of chefs you'll also have the opportunity to sip and sample an array of the very best of wine, beer, cocktails and delicious 'foodie produce' Durban has to offer whilst you shop your way around the festival. Sit back and relax at the Pick n Pay Fresh Living Chef's Theatre where top chefs will showcase their culinary skills in fun and informative cooking demonstrations, culinary challenges and entertaining tutorials. Or try your hand at making canapés at the hands on Pick n Pay Wine and Canapé Experience.
Other features include the Amazing Thailand Experience where Thai chefs will be demonstrating authentic Thai dishes, and the Snowflake Pancake Feature where visitors can learn how to make the perfect pancakes for every occasion.
Be sure to indulge in all things delicious at Fine Brandy by Design by Distell where South Africa's finest brandies which will be paired with a range of exquisite canapés. Visitors can also look forward to a host of premium drink features like San Pellegrino/Acqua Panna, the Redds Experience, the KWV Brandy Feature as well as Jagermeister's one of a kind six-wheel drive monster truck.
Award-winning wines will be on offer from estates such as Hermanuspietersfontein Winery, Warwick Wine Estate, Orange River Cellars, Namaqua Wines and the Idiom Wine Collection. Several micro-breweries such as Shongweni Breweries and Porcupine Quill Brewing Company will be showcasing their range of locally brewed beers all of which are handcrafted using only the finest ingredients and natural processes.
